Abstract
Five (arylsilyl)hydroxylamines (1-5) were prepared from the correspond ing arylhalosilanes and alkylated hydroxylamines in the presence of tr iethylamine as an auxiliary base. The crystal structure of (p-tolH2Si) 2NOMe (3) shows the Si2NO group to be clearly pyramidal, a unique feat ure in Si/N chemistry. The conformation of the Si2NOC skeleton is foun d to be the same as in alkylated hydroxylamines. The NMR spectra of al l five elements present in the compounds (H-1, C-13, N-15, O-17, Si-29 ) have been measured and are discussed. In this context 1J((NSi)-N-15- Si-29) coupling constants were found to reflect the unusual nitrogen h ybridization in the pyramidal configuration.
