Abstract
The BATSE results on the isotropy and source counts of gamma-ray burst s completely rule out the hypothesis that all bursts arise from a Gala ctic disk population of sources. Theoretical models are now being cons idered that place the sources in an extended ''Oort cloud'' around the solar system, in a halo around the Galaxy, or at cosmological distanc es with redshift z approximately 1. I review current progress in each of these three scenarios.
