C. Lopasso et al., GENETIC RELATEDNESS AND DIVERSITY OF CRYPTOCOCCUS-NEOFORMANS STRAINS IN THE MALTESE ISLANDS, Journal of clinical microbiology, 35(3), 1997, pp. 751-755
The genetic relatedness of clinical and environmental Cryptococcus neo
formans strains in the Maltese Islands was investigated by randomly am
plified polymorphic DNA fingerprinting with four primers. The clinical
strains isolated over the course of 1 year from AIDS patients showed
identical fingerprints. The electrophoretic patterns of the two clinic
al strains were also the most common patterns among the environmental
strains, but the patterns among the environmental strains showed a wid
e variability and no correlation with the site of isolation.
