Tn. Chami et al., ANGIOSARCOMA OF THE SMALL-INTESTINE - A CASE-REPORT AND LITERATURE-REVIEW, The American journal of gastroenterology, 89(5), 1994, pp. 797-800
A case of primary intestinal angiosarcoma in a 59-yr-old man is report
ed. The patient had recurrent gastrointestinal bleeding with normal up
per and lower gastrointestinal endoscopies, technetium-99m-labeled ery
throcyte scan, and angiography. Barium small bowel series and abdomina
l computerized tomography showed an ileal mass. Pathological examinati
on was consistent with hemangiosarcoma with both solid and vasoformati
ve patterns. Metastatic disease was also identified in the small bowel
mesentery, liver, spleen, lungs, and brain. No identifiable underlyin
g or epidemiologic factors have previously been reported to be associa
ted with this rare type of tumor of the gastrointestinal tract. The pe
rtinent literature on gastrointestinal angiosarcoma also is reviewed.
