Abstract
BHP has developed and implemented several laser-based sensors for use on its blast furnaces, including an optical stockrod, burden profiler and raceway sensor. This paper briefly reviews the developments in las er-based sensing and examines the data obtained during normal and abno rmal (eg. shutdowns) furnace operations.
