Abstract
Single crystals of LaTh4F19.H2O were prepared by reaction of LaF3 and ThF4 in HCl or HNO3 Solutions under hydrothermal conditions. The cryst al structure was solved from single crystal X-Ray diffraction data (R= 0.04) in the Cmcm space group: a=23.362(1)angstrom, b=7.3127(6)angstro m, c=8.236(1)angstrom, Z=4. The structure is built up with [ThF9]5- an d average [Th0.5La0.5F10]6.5- polyhedra associated in biplanes linked by [ThF7(OH2)]n3n- chains. H2O molecules and La atoms were located aft er the examination of the results of valence bond calculations.
