The title compound, kappaO';1kappaN'-kappaO':2kappa2N,N''-dicopper(II)
diperchlorate tetrahydrate, [Cu2(C6H13N4O2)2(H2O)2]2ClO4.4H2O, in whi
ch only one of the two amide protons of each N,N'-diglycylethylenediam
ine is released in solution, exists as a binuclear complex with invers
ion symmetry in the solid state. Each Cu(II) ion is five-coordinate wi
th a distorted square-pyramidal geometry. Two donar N atoms of one tet
radentate ligand and one N atom and one O atom of the other ligand for
m a slightly distorted plane and a water O atom occupies the axial pos
ition. Hydrogen bonds help stabilize the crystal structure.
