Abstract
Preliminary results of an X-ray crystal structure analysis show that t he title molecule [2-(5-chloro-2-benzotriazolyl)-4-methylphenol] is pr actically planar in the crystalline state. There is an intramolecular hydrogen bond in which the hydroxyl group serves as a donor to the N3 atom of the benzotriazole moiety. Such systems, which undergo intramol ecular proton transfer, are widely used as UV stabilizers.
