The entire molecule of [1,4,2]diazaphospholo[1,5-a]pyridinium-3-thiola
te, C14H13N2PS2, with the exception of the two S atoms, is approximate
ly planar. The pi electrons of the N(7)-C(8) bond are partially conjug
ated with those of the phenyl and pyridinyl rings. The P-C and P-S bon
d lengths are not significantly different to distances in related comp
ounds. However, the P-S bonds are shorter than terminal P-S bonds in t
hiophosphates. The P-N distance [1.819 (3) angstrom] indicates partial
ionic character.
