Parametric striction excitation of acoustic oscillations in droplets u
nder intense light wave pump is considered. Threshold intensities of M
andelshtam - Brillouin scattering were calculated with account of fiel
ds inhomogeneity and resonance character of interaction. Conditions ar
e found where threshold intensity is low and of the order of 10(3) W/m
2 for water drops of radii more then 4 mum at 0.4-0.7 mum light wavele
ngths. The observation of the excitation is possible in spite of nonli
near detaining effects of thermal origin.
