A. Cserei et al., STUDY OF THE CRYSTALLIZATION KINETICS IN AMORPHOUS FE83P17 ALLOY, Journal of radioanalytical and nuclear chemistry, 187(1), 1994, pp. 33-45
The crystallization kinetics of Fe83P17 amorphous alloy has been studi
ed by Mossbauer spectroscopy and X-ray diffractometry. The samples wer
e annealed isothermally at two different temperatures (315-degrees-C a
nd 325-degrees-C). During isothermal annealing of the samples three ph
ases were observed: crystalline Fe3P phase, crystalline alpha-Fe phase
and the amorphous phase. The value of the Avrami exponent was found t
o be about 2.0 at each annealing temperature. This suggests that the g
rowth rate of the crystals is controlled by volume diffusion and the n
ucleation rate decreases during crystallization. The activation energy
obtained for the overall crystallization process was 193 +/- 43 kJ mo
l-1.
