Abstract
Reaction of VOCl2(thf)2 with two equivalents of the sodium salt of mer captopyridine-N-oxide yields [VO(C5H4NOS)2] (1). 1 crystallizes in the orthorhombic space group Pbca with the following cell dimensions: a=1 1.148(2), b=14.103(2), c=15.258(3) angstrom, Z=8. The molecule possess es square pyramidal geometry with a V=O double bond length of 1.597(5) angstrom and average V-S and V-O distances of 2.375 and 1.964 angstro m, respectively. The vanadium atom is displaced from the best plane sp anned by the four ligand donor atoms by 0.644(1) angstrom. Reaction of 1 with SOCl2 affords the dichloro complex trans-[VCl2(C5H4NOS)2] (2).
