This article summarizes information collected from a questionnaire dis
tributed to 112 U.S. colleges and universities regarding graduate educ
ation programs in the field of industrial hygiene. Descriptive informa
tion, such as curriculum offered, university affiliation, faculty and
student characteristics, and program size, shows the diversity in prog
rams. Current enrollment and degree data are not available from any ot
her source. Full-and part-time enrollment in 1991 is estimated to be 1
585 students at the master's level and 103 students at the doctoral le
vel. During the 1990-1991 academic year, an estimated 438 master's deg
rees and 20 doctoral degrees were granted. Collection of this informat
ion will provide baseline data for an annual collection of enrollment
and degree data that can be used to establish trends in this field.
