A systematic for optimizing an imaging laser radar system is developed
based on the modulation schemes and cw-ranging methods known from rad
ar techniques and using the link budget formulae of optical communicat
ion. An imaging laser ranging system is shown, which was realized by r
egarding the opto-electronical components available on the market. Its
system performance is demonstrated by measuring a plane surface and a
plate with a surface of milled groves spaced equidistantly. Applicati
on possibilities of the laser scanning system for non-contacting measu
rements are discussed.
