Abstract
The 802.5 Token Ring protocol is firmly established as an internationa l standard. In this research note, its priority mechanism is analysed in the context of real-time environments, and it is shown that althoug h unable to implement a strict rate monotonic discipline, it is still schedulable if certain (proven) necessary and sufficient conditions, e xpressed in the form of inequalities, hold. These conditions also allo w the treatment of problems related to coarse granularities and to mix ed traffic.
