K. Yamada et al., EFFECTS OF 2,5-DIMETHYLPYRAZINE ON PLASMA TESTOSTERONE AND POLYAMINESAND ACID PHOSPHATASE-LEVELS IN THE RAT PROSTATE, Biological & pharmaceutical bulletin, 17(5), 1994, pp. 730-731
The effects of 2,5-dimethylpyrazine (DMP) on plasma testosterone and l
evels of polyamines and acid phosphatase in the prostate of rat were s
tudied. A high dose of DMP administered once daily for two weeks to ju
venile male rats significantly decreased plasma testosterone and level
s of polyamines and acid phosphatase in the prostate. These effects we
re not obtained by administration to mature male rats, and the inhibit
ion was thus recognized to occur during the growth period. These findi
ngs suggest that a high dose of DMP inhibits the biosynthesis of polya
mines and acid phosphatase in the prostate by decreasing the circulati
ng testosterone level.
