J. Park et al., THE EFFECTS OF POPLAR (P-TRICHOCARPA X DELTOIDES) ON SOIL BIOLOGICAL PROPERTIES IN A SILVORABLE SYSTEM, Agroforestry systems, 25(2), 1994, pp. 111-118
A silvoarable experimental site in Buckinghamshire, England combined r
ows of poplar trees with an arable rotation. Soil properties were inve
stigated using soil carbon and the bodysize of invertebrates. Four yea
rs after establishment, the soil within and Im from the tree rows has
significantly higher soil organic matter and invertebrate populations.
These effects do not extend far beyond the crown diameter.
