Abstract
Cutaneous abscesses are an uncommon manifestation of Acanthamoeba infe ction. We report a case of a patient with acquired immunodeficiency sy ndrome who developed multiple cutaneous lesions on bis arms, legs, and trunk. Skin biopsies revealed cysts and trophozoites of Acanthamoeba spp with invasion of blood vessel walls associated with tissue necrosi s. Brain lesions examined at autopsy failed to reveal amoeba and no ot her foci of amoebic infection were found.
