Reanalysis of gammagamma coincidence data acquired in studies of super
deformed bands in Hg and Tl nuclei has yielded spectroscopic informati
on about light neutron-rich products of binary reactions of S-34, S-36
, and Cl-37 beams on Gd-160 targets. Gates set on known gamma rays in
A approximately 160 products selected individual reaction channels and
identified coincident gamma rays in A approximately 36 partner produc
ts. Transfers of protons from projectile to target and of neutrons fro
m target to projectile were generally favored, leading to excited neut
ron-rich light nuclei, including some difficult to reach by other mean
s. Notable results include the observation of gamma ray cascades up to
the highest known yrast states in four N=20 isotones. In two N=19 nuc
lei, Si-33 and P-34, and the two N=22 nuclei, 38S and Cl-39, previousl
y unknown yrast states were identified.
