M. Ji et al., THE ESTIMATION OF FRACTURE-RESISTANCE OF ORTHOGONAL 3-DIMENSIONAL FIBER-REINFORCED COMPOSITE BY DCB TESTING, JSME international journal. Series A, mechanics and material engineering, 40(1), 1997, pp. 37-43
The degree of the enhancement of the fracture resistance of an orthogo
nal three-dimensional composite of cabon fiber reinforced epoxy is exp
erimentally determined using a DCB testing method. By analyzing the lo
ad-displacement curve and the energy change caused by the breaking of
the bridging fiber yarn, the mechanism of the enhancement of the bridg
ing fiber for the fracture resistance is considered. It was found that
the greater the number of bridging yarns in the crack, the greater is
the amount of deformation energy per cracking area necessary for crac
k propagation. An estimation method for the mode I fracture toughness
of the material is presented.
