Abstract
An arc discharge plasma torch apparatus with gas-vortex stabilization of the arc was developed and constructed for the laboratory synthesis of polycrystalline diamond coatings. An anomalous expansion of the pla sma jet under gas pressure was discovered. Under certain operating con ditions, the construction of the arc discharge plasma torch apparatus prevents electrode erosion and contamination of the diamond covering w ith metallic impurities.
