G. Lebouedec et al., TAMOXIFEN AND THE ENDOMETRIUM - REVIEW OF 50 CASES OF ABNORMAL UTERINE BLEEDING, La Revue de medecine interne, 14(6), 1993, pp. 453-453
Fifty cases of abnormal uterine bleeding occured among women receiving
tamoxifen for breast cancer have been investigated by hysteroscopy an
d dilatation-curetage. The histopathologic findings were the following
: atrophic mucosa (11 cases), hyperplasic mucosa or endometrial polyp
s (34 cases), endometrial adenocarcinoma (5 cases). These results high
light the potential estrogen-like property so-called paradoxical effec
t of tamoxifen and its suggested oncogenic risk toward the endometrium
.
