This paper presents a method for identifying the crystal orientation o
f single crystals with cubic crystal structure based on a conventional
resonance measurement and a FE-analysis. It includes a non-linear opt
imizer, an FE-program for solving eigenvalue equations, and a frequenc
y assignment algorithm. This method provides an independent verificati
on or an alternative to the Laue x-ray method. The results for two fcc
Ni-base superalloy single crystals demonstrate the efficiency and eco
nomy of this method.
