Abstract
A characterization of the organic components in municipal treatment sl udges is developed by the use of different instrumental techniques, na mely HPLC and size-exclusion chromatography, infra-red spectroscopy, n uclear-magnetic resonance spectroscopy, inductively-coupled plasma ato mic-emission spectroscopy, graphite-furnace atomic-absorption spectros copy and thermogravimetric methods. In particular, degradation effects undergone by sludge along time when preserved in aerobic conditions a re investigated. A correlation between organic components and heavy me tals mobility is attempted.
