Abstract
In the presence of a catalytic amount of scandium(III) perchlorate (Sc (ClO4)(3)), 1-O-acetyl-2,3,5-tri-O-benzyl-beta-D-ribofuranose reacted with trimethylsilylated nucleophiles to afford the corresponding alpha -D-ribofuranosides in high yields with good selectivities. The catalys t could be recovered after the reactions were completed and could be r eused.
