SYNTHESIS AND POLYMERIZATION OF 4-VINYLQUINOLINE AND 4-VINYLPYRIDINE WITH ALET3-VCL3 - INFLUENCE OF PYRIDINE AS DONOR LIGAND

Polymerizations of 4-vinylquinoline and 4-vinylpyridine were carried o ut with the AlEt3-VCl3 catalyst system at various temperatures. The in fluence of the molar ratio of the catalyst system on conversion, for b oth monomers, was analysed. The influences of the formation time of ca talytic species, polymerization time, temperature and the molar ratio of pyridine as donor ligand have been examined under various experimen tal conditions. Interpretation of results was made on the basis of tri gonal active centres and steric hindrance for both monomers.
