Abstract
The order parameter, S, for the nematic solutions of poly(p-benzamide) (PBA) in concentrated sulfuric acid was determined with the Depolariz ed light intensity (DLI) technique. It was shown that the DLI techniqu e is a valuable and convenient method to study the order parameter in lyotropic liquid crystalline polymers. From the experiments, S was fou nd to decrease with temperature and increase with polymer concentratio n. The concentration dependence of S was further compared with results derived from theories proposed by Doi and Onsager.
