The miscibility of a range of poly(butadiene-stat-acrylonitrile) (BAN)
copolymers, with the chlorine containing polymers, polychloroprene (P
C), poly(epichlorohydrin) (PECH) and a sample of poly(vinylidene chlor
ide-stat-acrylonitrile) (PVDC-AN) containing 19 wt% acrylonitrile and
56 wt% chlorine, has been studied. Miscibility windows were found to e
xist in BAN/PECH and BAN/PVDC-AN blends but not when PC was the second
component. The reasons for the differences are discussed in terms of
the total polar content of the chlorine containing samples and the dat
a are compared with previous results from blends of BAN with poly(viny
l chloride) and chlorinated polyethylene. Segmental interaction energy
densities were established for the PAN/PECH system and these compare
favourably with those from related systems.
