We consider several source functions in the Bose-Einstein correlations
and show their interrelations between 4-dimensional and 3-dimensional
configuration spaces. We use two frameworks, i.e., a conventional one
and that of the laser optical approach. The data of the correlations
in S + Pb reaction at 200 GeV/c by NA44 Collaboration are analysed by
our formulae. It is found that the correlations expressed by the Gauss
ian distribution, an exponential function and power functions of Loren
tzian show almost the same chi2-values in both frameworks. From estima
ted values of the root mean square in the conventional formula, R(rms)
= square-root [r2], the following physical picture is obtained: 1.2A(
T)1/3 less than or similar to R(rms)(S+Pb at 200 GeV/c) less than or s
imilar to 1.2(A(T)1/3+A(P)1/3), where A(T) and A(P) are target and pro
jectile masses. New results and data in S+S, S+Ag and S+Pb reactions a
t 200 GeV/c are also examined by the present framework. It is confirme
d that the root mean square, R(rms), is more sensitive than the magnit
udes of space region, R's, in physical interpretation of parameters co
ntained in the source functions.
