THE TRIPLESIID BRACHIOPOD BRACHYMIMULUS AND ITS SPECIES

Recent redescription of the type species of the Wenlockian triplesiid brachiopod Brachymimulus Cockerell 1999 shows that it is morphological ly distinct from the other species ascribed to that genus. The latter species are here considered to be best placed in Paraonychoplecia Perc ival 1991. The type of this genus, from the Caradoc of New South Wales , appears to be ancestral to younger species known from Europe and Nor th America, the youngest of which occurs in the Wenlock.
