The oral yeasts present in diabetic controlled and uncontrolled patien
ts were studied. The methodology used permitted to conclude that a sim
ilar frequency of yeasts is observed in both groups. Carriers were obs
erved in 21.4% (20.0% in the controlled and 22.8% in the uncontrolled
group) while 14.2% presented clinical lesions. Candida albicans seroty
pe A was the most frequent. The phospholipase was produced by 100.0% a
nd 88.8% of the strains isolated from the controlled and uncontrolled
group, respectively. Proteases were produced by 75.0% of the strains i
solated from controlled group and 88.8% from uncontrolled group. Rhodo
torula rubra, Candida tropicalis, Candida krusei, Geotrichum candidum,
Trichosporon beigelii, Cryptococcus laurentii and Candida glabrata we
re the other species isolated. In this study we did not find significa
nt differences between diabetic patient groups in relation to Candida
albicans with a similar picture observed in healthy carriers.
