Abstract
1-Benzylidenetetralin-2-one (2), obtained by the condensation of beta- tetralone (1) with benzaldehyde, on reaction with thiourea in alkaline medium gives ,2,5,6-tetrahydrobenzo[f]quinazoline-3-(4H)-thione (3). The thione 3 on condensation with chloroacetic acid and beta-chloropro pionic acid furnishes dihydrothiazolo[2,3-b]benzo[f]quinazolin-1(2H)-o ne (4) and ro[1,3]thiazino[2,3-b]benzo[f]quinazolin-1(2H)-one (5). Ary lidenethiazolidinones (6) have been prepared by the condensation of th iazolidinone (4) with aromatic aldehydes Compounds 4 and 5 represent t wo noval and hitherto unknown heterocyclic systems.
