Sect. B: organic chemistry, including medical chemistry, 33(6), 1994, pp. 609-612
The main compound present in the chloroform extract of the fruit shell
s of Pithecellobium jiringa has been identified as methyl gallate on t
he basis of IR, mass, H-1 and C-13 NMR spectral data. Spectrophotometr
ic determination of the second ionization constant (K(a2)) of methyl g
allate gives a value of 9.7 x 10(-14) M at 30-degrees.
