Abstract
The effects of simulated acid rain on the aluminium of soil minerals w ere evaluated. The acid rain had no effects on either the crystalline or amorphous aluminium oxides present on the surface or on those withi n clay minerals. The soil therefore showed a good buffering power as r egards the mineral forms of the tested acid solutions. However, the pr evalence of amorphous oxides over crystalline oxides and of quartz ove r phyllosilicates is an index of the precarious equilibrium of the soi l at the time of sampling.
