omatology and severity. Hypnotherapy and dynamic psychotherapy are eff
ective treatments for refractory irritable bowel syndrome. Psychothera
py is more suitable for patients with overt psychological symptoms. Ot
her psychological interventions require further research before their
efficacy can be established.
