Objective: To describe a patient with Duchenne muscular dystrophy who
presented with oropharyngeal dysphagia and pharyngo-oesophageal dysfun
ction. Patient: A 15-year-old male patient with Duchenne muscular dyst
rophy presented with oropharyngeal dysphagia. Abnormalities of oral an
d pharyngeal phases of deglutition were observed on videoradiography.
Pharyngeal hypomotility and upper oesophageal sphincter dysfunction we
re the main manometric findings. Conclusion: To our knowledge, the pre
sence of pharyngeal or upper oesophageal sphincter dysfunction has not
been found previously in patients with progressive muscular dystrophy
