Ur. Ezekiel et Hp. Zassenhaus, EVIDENCE FOR A SITE-SPECIFIC ENDONUCLEASE IN YEAST MITOCHONDRIA WHICHRECOGNIZES THE SEQUENCE 5'GCCGGC, Biochemical and biophysical research communications, 201(1), 1994, pp. 208-214
We have discovered a mitochondrial, site-specific DNase in Saccharomyc
es cerevisiae with properties like that of a Type II restriction endon
uclease. The enzyme, termed Scelll, cleaves the palindromic sequence,
5'GCCGGC, to give 3' ends recessed by 4 bases. Scelll is the first res
triction-like endonuclease to be described in yeast mitochondria. (C)
