Abstract
The sonomammographic (SM) criteria of sixty histologically proven brea st fibroadenomas (FA) were studied. Most of the lesions demonstrated s harp wall contours (98.3%), while 95% were deformable under the effect of compression. Over 88% of them were hypoechoic and almost 82% had h omogenous echo pattern. The study showed that the accuracy of SM for t he diagnosis of FA was 91.7%, that of X-ray mammography (XM) was 75.8% while clinical examination was 33.3%. It is concluded that the most i mportant diagnostic criteria are the state of the sharp wall contour a nd a positive compression effect. Sonomammography is an extremely impo rtant diagnostic tool in the diagnosis of breast FA.
