Md. Vieira et Hj. Herrmann, SELF-SIMILARITY OF FRICTION LAWS, Physical review. E, Statistical physics, plasmas, fluids, and related interdisciplinary topics, 49(5), 1994, pp. 4534-4541
The change of a friction law from a mesoscopic level to a macroscopic
level is studied in the spring-block models introduced by Burridge and
Knopoff [Bull. Seismol. Soc. Am. 57, 341 (1967)]. We find that the Co
ulomb law is always scale invariant. Other proposed scaling laws are o
nly invariant under certain conditions.
