Neuromuscular diseases are divided into pathoanatomic classifications.
Characteristics of these classifications, including mononeuropathies
and polyneuropathies, myopathies, and neuromuscular junction diseases,
are provided. Muscle weakness is the clinical sign common to all of t
hese disorders. The expression of that weakness, however, may vary con
siderably from paresis to paralysis and the distribution of involvemen
t may be local, regional, or generalized.
