Ms. Miloshova et al., CHALCOGENIDE GLASS CHEMICAL SENSORS FOR DETERMINATION OF THALLIUM IN NATURAL AND WASTE-WATER, Sensors and actuators. B, Chemical, 19(1-3), 1994, pp. 373-375
A Tl+-selective chalcogenide glass sensor developed in the Laboratory
of Chemical Sensors of St. Petersburg University has been applied for
potentiometric determination of thallium in natural and waste water sa
mples collected in the highly polluted area of North Kazakhstan. It wa
s found that in carbonate/hydrocarbonate-containing solutions at neutr
al pH the thallium sensor exhibits near-linear response down to pTl 7
and is hardly influenced by interfering alkali, alkali-earth and heavy
metal ions. A simple analytical procedure for thallium determination
with a chalcogenide glass sensor can be used for environmental monitor
ing of the polluted area.
