Abstract
In this paper we implement a spectral method for solving initial bound ary value problems which is in between the Galerkin and collocation me thods. In this method the partial differential equation and initial an d boundary conditions are collocated at an overdetermined set of point s and the approximate solution is chosen to be the least-squares solut ion to this system of equations. The solution is obtained using precon ditioned residual minimization. Numerical results for linear and nonli near hyperbolic problems are provided. (C) 1994 Academic Press, Inc.
