The first synthesis and optical activity measurement of homochiral, mo
nodisperse dendrimers is reported. Optically active (2R, 3R)-tartaric
acid is used to construct the zero and first-generation optically acti
ve, homochiral dendrimers 1 and 2 in good yields. The relationship bet
ween the optical rotation of all these molecules and the number of chi
ral tartaric acid units resided in them is explored.
