Abstract
The technical feasibility of electrolytic treatment of kraft weak blac k liquor (WBL) from a softwood furnish was tested in a continuous 90-h our experiment with a laboratory-scale system. The process was shown t o be able to reduce the organic load to the recovery furnace by precip itating and removing up to 75% of the lignin while converting a major fraction of the sodium salts to high quality NaOH solution. A method w as also tested for washing the anolyte compartment of the cell to main tain an acceptable energy efficiency.
