Jw. Pennebaker et C. Uhlmann, DIRECT LINKING OF AUTONOMIC ACTIVITY WITH TYPED TEXT - THE CARMEN MACHINE, Behavior research methods, instruments, & computers, 26(1), 1994, pp. 28-31
A technique that allows researchers to simultaneously record typed tex
t and link each typed word with up to four channels of autonomic nervo
us system activity is described. The computer-based system is useful f
or studying the biological correlates of language production. The syst
em, which works with J&J biofeedback equipment, can be adapted to virt
ually any monitoring equipment that can provide A/D conversion. Sugges
tions for data analyses are included.
