Abstract
The symptoms of a disease which affects some vineyards in northern Por tugal include yellowing and rolling down of the leaves, premature leaf abscission, dark spots in the stems as well as vegetative decline. A preliminary electron microscope study revealed the presence of pleomor phic bodies resembling mycoplasma-like organisms (MLOs) in the phloem tissue of the petiole of diseased plants.
