Abstract
A tensorial formalism adapted to the case of octahedral molecules or m olecular ions with half-integer angular momenta is proposed as an ''te nsion of the usual formalism for the group chain 0(3) superset-of O(h) . We use the chain SU(2) x C(I) superset-of O(h)S, where O(h)S is the octahedral group with its spinorial representations. Coupling coeffici ents (3j - m, isoscalar factors, etc.) and formulas for the computatio n of matrix elements of tensor operators are derived for this chain. A deduction of coupling coefficients (3C - sigma, 6C, . . .) and simila r formulas is proposed for the non-simply reducible group O(S) itself. (C) 1994 Academic Press, Inc.
