The novel cyclopentadiene HMe(4)C(5)CH(2)CMe(2)py [py = 2-(4-tert-buty
l)pyridyl] 2H has been prepared from tetramethylfulvene and lithiated
2-isopropyl-4-tert-butylpyridine. Lithiation of 2H with Bu(n)Li and su
bsequent reaction with FeCl2 yields the ferrocene (2)(2)Fe, which crys
tallizes in the triclinic space group P (1) over bar with a = 8.368(1)
, b = 8.468(1), c = 14.313(1) Angstrom, alpha = 80.64(1), beta = 86.67
(1), gamma = 80.12(1)degrees and V = 985.4(2) Angstrom(3).
