G. Giovannozzisermanni et al., CHARACTERISTICS OF PAPER HANDSHEETS AFTER COMBINED BIOLOGICAL PRETREATMENTS AND CONVENTIONAL PULPING OF WHEAT-STRAW, Tappi journal, 77(6), 1994, pp. 151-156
An exoenzyme mixture obtained from solid-state fermentation of straw b
y Lentinus edodes was used to treat wheat straw in a rotary drum biore
actor. After 24 h incubation under different conditions (temperature,
cellulase inhibition) and subsequent pulping of the pre-treated straw,
the degrees-SR freeness, breaking length, and burst index of the pape
r handsheets showed that the enzymic treatment reduced the energy need
s for the refining treatment by about 50%. Its influence on freeness,
breaking length, and burst index is reported.
