A simplified computer model for nonisothermal, coextruded polymer flow
s is developed based on fundamental mechanical and heat transfer balan
ces. The program uses orthogonal collocation on finite elements and ca
n be run on standard PC spreadsheet software packages. Two examples of
flow in a narrow channel are presented to demonstrate the utility of
the model. The importance of interface location and thermodynamic prop
erties on interfacial viscosity ratio for three idealized fluids is il
lustrated.
